The Glacier Kayaking by Sólheimajökull Tour

The Glacier Kayak tour gives you a chance to experience the Sólheimajökull glacier uniquely. Kayaking by the glacier is a fantastic experience in Iceland that you should not miss! Located on the South Coast, this excursion is an excellent addition to a self-drive trip in this region of the country.

The tour starts at the Sólheimajökull glacier parking lot. You will meet up with your experienced guide and the rest of your group. You will be supplied with dry suits, and your guide will assist you with gearing up for the tour. Before walking out on the glacier lagoon, you will also get a safety briefing. Your guide will also show you some basic kayaking techniques. On this tour, you will kayak in sit-on-top kayaks, which are easy to steer. You do not need any previous kayaking experience to participate in this tour.

Once out on the lagoon, you will experience the majestic features of the lagoon and Sólheimajökull glacier. As you paddle on the lagoon’s calm surface, you can take in the incredible landscape that surrounds you. Your guide will lead you around the glacier and between the icebergs floating on the lagoon. You will also learn more about the glacier and its environment.

For a full day by the glacier, you can combine glacier kayaking with a glacier hike on Sólheimajökull.
