This is a meet-on-location tour—Skaftafell is about a 4-hour drive from Reykjavík. What to Expect

Your adventure begins with a 20-minute drive to the glacier, followed by a short 5-minute hike to reach the glacier’s edge. Here, our professional guides will provide safety gear (crampons, helmet, and harness) and demonstrate how to walk on ice safely.

Once on the glacier, you’ll hike across dramatic ice formations, crevasses, and ridges while learning about the glacier’s history and geology. The highlight of the tour is entering a naturally formed ice cave, illuminated by the magical blue light filtering through centuries-old ice. You’ll have plenty of time to explore and take photos inside this otherworldly setting.

Please note: Ice caves are natural formations and constantly changing. The cave visited is chosen based on the safest and most accessible conditions on the day of your tour.

Important Information

• Fitness level: Participants should be comfortable walking on uneven terrain for up to 2 hours.

• Winter daylight: During the darkest months, the last departure of the day may return partly in the dark.

• What to bring:

  • Warm clothing and waterproof outer layers
