This tour takes you on an adventure on the Sólheimajökull glacier. Guided by expert guides, this tour opens you up to Iceland’s beautiful world of glaciers. This is a unique experience where you will walk on one of the many retreating glaciers found in the world. You will witness incredible surroundings, marked by rugged and majestic rock formations shaped by the glacier. This is a fun, safe, and easy glacier walk for most travelers. The Sólheimajökull glacier tongue extends from the Mýrdalsjökull glacier down to the sandy plains of the Icelandic coast. This beautiful setting creates the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable glacier walk in Iceland. From the meeting point, located by the parking area, you will start with an easy 30-40 minute walk to the glacier’s edge. Your guide will teach you to put on crampons before heading out on the glacier. An experienced glacier guide will teach you how to use essential equipment such as crampons and an ice ax for all glacier walk tours.
During the tour, you will explore ice sculptures, water cauldron, and deep crevasses. While enjoying all the glacier’s features and spectacular surroundings, you will also learn more about the behavior of glaciers and their impact on nature.

No, this is a meet-on-location tour. If you don’t have a car but would like to go on a glacier walk on Sólheimajökull, you might be interested in the Take A Walk on the Ice Side day tour from Reykjavík.
The tour is 3.5 hours in total, with about 2 – 2.5 hours spent on the ice.
You should dress according to weather and keep in mind that it can get cold up on the glacier, and the weather can change quickly. Wear warm clothing, rain gear, and hiking boots.

From the West (Reykjavík): 6 km after Skógar, you turn left (just after the bridge) onto road 221 and then follow road 221 for about 5 km to the Sólheimajökull Café parking area. (Expected 20 – 30 min. for this part).
From the East (Vík): 3 km after you pass road 222, you turn right (just before the bridge) onto road 221 and then follow road 221 for about 5 km to the Sólheimajökull Café parking area. (Expected 20 – 30 min. for this part).
