Diving Silfra is a day tour from Reykjavik, silfra is one of the best cold water dive sites in the world and the most popular dive site in Iceland. If you are a certified diver visiting Iceland Silfra is a must.
Silfra is the only place in the world you can dive directly between the world’s biggest continental plates , the north American And the Eurasian. The water in Silfra comes from the second largest glacier in Iceland Langjökull and it takes the water about 30 to 100 years to filter thru the lava before it comes in Silfra. Water temperature is always between 2 and 4 degrees Celsius and the visibility over 100 meters, so diving in Silfra is like diving in the purest drinking water.
During the dive you will explore the four main parts of Silfra. You begin in Big Crack but that’s Silfras narrowest section, there you can have your picture taken between the two Continents. As the fissure widens you will enter the majestic Silfra Hall, from there you will find yourself in Silfra Cathedral which is literally a divine section of Silfra. The depth of the fissure is about 20 meters at the deepest point and from the beginning to the end the cathedral is about 100 meters long, you can see right across from one end to the other. Gazing through this section of Silfra is one of the most dramatic views underwater. Silfra Lagoon is the last section of Silfra, this is the place where the visibility is most apparent.
After this first dive we will go back to enjoy a warm cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate and snacks. This tour includes two dives but in the winter time we only conduct one extended dive (40-45 minutes) that is done with your comfort and safety at heart.
To dive Silfra you need to have a dry suit certificate and/or prior dry suit experience within the last two years.
