Are you short on time but want to visit the DC-3 plane wreck? Then the 1 hour ATV tour on Sólheimasandur is a perfect choice! On this quick, easy tour, you will ride ATVs down to the famous plane wreck. On this thrilling ride, you will also experience the black sands of Sólheimasandur. You’ll forge some rivers for an extra fun hour on the South Coast along the way!
For this tour, you will meet up with your guide and group at the meeting point on the South Coast. There you will gear up in overalls and safety gear. You will also get a quick safety briefing, and your guide will show you how to operate the ATV. Afterward, it’s time to hit the road – or, better yet, the beach! You will ride through some shallow rivers on your way down to the DC-3 Plane Wreck. Your overalls will keep you dry, so don’t be afraid to get wet!
Once down at the DC-3 Plane, you will have time to explore the wreck. You’ll also be able to take plenty of photos of this iconic landmark. Afterward, you’ll be able to have a little bit of fun on the black sand before heading back to the meeting point. After getting out of your overalls, you can continue your Iceland journey! It really couldn’t be any easier!
This tour is suitable for beginners. Kids from 7 years and up can ride on ATVs with their parents, making this an excellent tour for families, groups, and individual travelers. Please note that you must hold a valid driver’s license to drive an ATV. Those without permits can ride on in the back with their licensed travel partners. Please see this tour’s FAQ for more information.
This tour pairs perfectly with the Glacier Discovery Sólheimajökull tour. You can do both in one day!
Yes, you must have a valid driving license and be at least 18 years of age to operate the ATV.
If you do not have a valid license, you can ride in the back of the ATV of your licensed travel partner. Kids also ride on the back of their parents’ ATV’s, who must hold a valid license.
The standard price for the tour includes a double ride, which means that two persons ride together on one ATV.
If you would like to ride the ATV by yourself, you can book a single ride at an additional cost.
Note that ATV’s are not shared with other guests on the tour, so if you are traveling by yourself or in a group with odd numbers, such as 3 or 5, you must book a single ride for one person.
