Explore the wild landscapes of South Iceland on this Katla Ice Cave & Black Beach with Drone Tour from Vík. Travel by Super Jeep, walk on a glacier, enter a natural blue ice cave and visit a secluded black sand beach.
What makes this adventure different is the opportunity to fly your own drone at selected locations. The tour includes dedicated drone stops chosen by your guide. Therefore, photographers and drone enthusiasts can capture Iceland’s volcanic landscapes from an incredible aerial perspective.
The complete adventure lasts approximately 4 hours and departs from Katlatrack in Vík.
Your adventure begins in Vík, where you board a specially modified Super Jeep.
Soon, paved roads give way to rugged volcanic terrain. Travel across black sand landscapes, cross glacial rivers and discover remote areas that ordinary vehicles cannot reach.
Along the way, the route may include a drone stop near Hafursey mountain. You’ll also pass landscapes used as filming locations for productions such as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Noah.
Next, travel towards Kötlujökull, an outlet glacier of Mýrdalsjökull beneath the Katla volcanic system.
Your guide provides crampons and a helmet before leading you towards the ice cave. Once inside, discover an extraordinary combination of blue ice and layers of black volcanic ash.
These natural formations constantly change as the glacier moves and melts. As a result, every visit offers a different experience.
Your guide will also explain how volcanic activity and glacial forces have shaped this remarkable landscape.
This tour gives drone pilots the chance to capture Iceland from above at carefully selected drone locations.
Depending on conditions, stops may include Hafursey, the Katla glacier area and the black sand coastline.
However, guests may only fly drones at designated stops and under the guide’s supervision. This helps protect the environment while keeping the experience safe for everyone.
You must bring your own drone, as drone equipment is not included.
The adventure also takes you to a private black sand beach away from the crowds.
Walk along the volcanic shoreline and experience the power of the North Atlantic. From here, you can also enjoy a different perspective of the dramatic Reynisdrangar sea stacks near Vík.
The remote setting creates another excellent opportunity for photography and drone footage before returning to Vík.
Combining a Super Jeep adventure, Katla Ice Cave, glacier landscapes, drone flying and a secluded black sand beach, this tour offers a unique way to experience South Iceland.
