Located on the northern shores of Þingvallavatn, Iceland’s largest lake, Þingvellir is a national pride and our first national park. It is vital to Icelandic history, as the oldest parliament was established here in 930 AD. Þingvellir’s unique geology and natural features make it a protected national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From the viewing area, you can see the Almannagjá canyon, illustrating continental drift in real-time.
Enjoy this stunning natural area and take a moment to visit the restroom if needed.
The tour continues to the active Geysir Hot Spring Area, known for its boiling mud pits and the lively Strokkur, which erupts regularly. Geysir’s name has become synonymous with spouting hot springs around the globe, thanks to its historical activity over the past 1,000 years. Guests can also use facilities at the newly opened Geysir Center for refreshments and lunch.
As one of Iceland’s top attractions, Gullfoss waterfall is located in the canyon of Hvítá River. You’ll see the river flowing in three tiers, crashing down into a dramatic canyon. On clear days, enjoy a spectacular view of the nearby Langjökull glacier, Iceland’s second-largest glacier.
Restroom facilities and options for food and refreshments are available at this location.
For the in-bus audio guide, please bring your own headphones. If you forget, headphones can be purchased from our hosts on the bus.
Dress appropriately for Icelandic weather. It’s wise to wear warm, waterproof clothing as conditions can change rapidly. We recommend waterproof jackets and pants, headwear, gloves, and warm socks or waterproof shoes.
