The Blue Ice Experience in Skaftafell is a great excursion to take in the beautiful Vatnajökull National Park. On this tour, you can enjoy an easy 2-hour walk on the Svínafellsjökull glacier tongue. This glacier is a breathtaking outlet glacier of Vatnajökull glacier. It offers beautiful scenery and stunning views. After meeting up with your guides in Skaftafell, you’ll take a short drive to the Svínafellsjökull glacier. Before the tour begins, your guide will teach you how to use the safety equipment, such as crampons and an ice ax. From there, your journey into the glacier wonderland begins. Led by expert guides, you’ll walk through a world of glacial ice sculptures, ice ridges and deep crevasses in the glacier.
This tour is a great addition to a day spent exploring this beautiful region of Iceland. You can easily combine this tour with a hike in the area and an exploration of the nearby glacier lagoons, Fjallsárlón and Jökulsárlón.
The meeting location for this tour is in Skaftafell, next to the National Park Visitor Centre. Please be on location 20 minutes before the start of the tour.

The tour is about 2½-3 hours in total, with 1½-2 hours spent on the glacier.
You should dress according to weather. Please keep in mind that it is usually colder up on the glacier. Wear warm clothing, rain gear, and hiking boots. Hiking boots can be rented at booking (1,500 ISK per pair).
Due to safety reasons, the age limit is not flexible. The minimum age for this tour is 10 years of age.
Reservations can be canceled 24 hours prior to departure without penalty. Cancellations received less than 24 hours prior to departure are non-refundable.
