If you’re visiting Akureyri, you should check out the Akureyri Whale Watching tour! Sail from the harbor in Akureyri out on the stunning Eyjafjörður fjord. During the tour, you will be accompanied by an experienced whale watching guide. They will answer any questions you have, and you will try to spot the Humpback whales that inhabit this area. You might also spot some other species of whales, along with white-beaked dolphins and birdlife.
Departing from the harbor in Akureyri, your experienced captain and crew will sail out on Eyjafjörður fjord. This fjord is known for its abundance of Humpback whales, although their population varies depending on the season.
You will sail on a particular high-speed whale watching the ship, which features cinema-style viewing platforms. Also, on board the boat, you will find in- and outdoor seating, a bar, and a cafeteria. After the tour, you will return to the harbor in Akureyri.

Yes, a whale watching tour is a great activity that the whole family can enjoy. There is no age limit on this tour.
You should wear warm clothes as your first layer, and we recommend bringing a waterproof outer layer in case of rain. Keep in mind that it can get colder out at sea than it is on land.
Several layers of clothes are recommended along with gloves, a scarf, hat and winter shoes.
Warm overalls are provided on the boat (included in the tour price)

No, smoking is not allowed on the boat.
If the operator decides to cancel the tour because of weather, you will be offered to reschedule your tour or get a full refund.
As these are wild animals, sightings can never be guaranteed.
If no whales or dolphins make an appearance on your tour you will be offered complimentary tickets for another tour, valid for 2 years.
As the whales are wild animals there is no way to predict if it’s more likely to see them in the morning or in the afternoon.
Reservations can be canceled 24 hours prior to departure without penalty. Cancellations received less than 24 hours prior to departure are non-refundable.
Cancellations must be submitted in writing to info@iat.is.
Please be mindful of possible time zone differences. Iceland is in the GMT time zone and cancellations must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure in Icelandic local time (GMT).
