Join us for an unforgettable 3-Day Highlands & Volcanoes Tour in Iceland! This thrilling tour includes stops at stunning locations such as Vestmannaeyjar Island or the Westman Islands, where you can enjoy puffin watching, along with visits to Laki and Lakagígar volcanoes, Eldgjá Volcanic Canyon, Landmannalaugar, and the beautiful Icelandic Highlands. The package includes two nights at Adventure Hótel Geirland and breakfast each morning.
On the first morning, you will be picked up from your accommodation in Reykjavík. The tour will head to the Landeyjarhöfn harbor, where you will board a ferry to Vestmannaeyjar Islands. After a scenic 45-minute ferry ride, the first stop is at Stórhöfði Cape, the southernmost tip of the main island, perfect for observing the iconic Atlantic Puffins. Following this, visit Eldheimar Museum, which commemorates the volcanic eruption of 1973 that forced the island’s residents to evacuate. After the museum, hike up Mt. Eldfell or explore the town before returning to the mainland in the afternoon.
Once back, you will travel along the South Coast and enjoy views of notable sites including Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, and Mt. Eyjafjallajökull, which erupted in 2010, disrupting air traffic across Europe and North America. Your day concludes at the picturesque coastal village of Vík, where you can relax and explore before heading to your hotel for the night.
After breakfast, your adventure begins at the Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon. Hiking alongside the canyon feels like stepping into a fairy tale. The journey then continues into the pristine area of Laki and Lakagígar, part of Vatnajökull National Park. Once at Mt. Laki, hike to the summit for stunning views of the landscape and the historic Lakagígar craters formed during one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history from 1783-1784. This eruption significantly impacted Europe, leading to a famine that contributed to the French Revolution.
You will make short stops along the highlands before arriving in Kirkjubæjarklaustur, where you have free time to explore** Systrafoss Waterfall**, Systrastapi Rock, or the fascinating Kirkjugólf (Church Floor) made of row upon row of basalt columns. Afterward, return to your hotel for the night.
On your final day, you’ll enjoy breakfast, check out of the hotel, and begin your return journey to Reykjavík. However, you’ll take the scenic Fjallabaksleið Nyrðri road, stopping first at Eldgjá Canyon, the largest volcanic canyon in the world, spanning about 40 kilometers. Here, you’ll hike to experience Ófærufoss Waterfall.
Next, head to Landmannalaugar, a spectacular highlands paradise known for its multicolored rhyolite mountains. You can explore the lava fields of Laugahraun, hike Mt. Brennisteinsalda, or soak in the natural geothermal pool.
After enjoying a couple of hours in Landmannalaugar, your journey back to Reykjavík continues with a brief stop at Hjálparfoss Waterfall in Þjórsárdalur Valley. Once back in Reykjavík in the evening, you will be dropped off at your chosen location.
Please remember to bring warm outdoor clothing, a waterproof jacket and pants, headwear, gloves, and swimsuits for the geothermal springs. Good hiking shoes are also recommended. Please note that meals are not included in the tour, except for breakfast.
