3-Day Highlands & Volcanoes Tour

Join us for an unforgettable 3-Day Highlands & Volcanoes Tour in Iceland! This thrilling tour includes stops at stunning locations such as Vestmannaeyjar Island or the Westman Islands, where you can enjoy puffin watching, along with visits to Laki and Lakagígar volcanoes, Eldgjá Volcanic Canyon, Landmannalaugar, and the beautiful Icelandic Highlands. The package includes two nights at Adventure Hótel Geirland and breakfast each morning.

Day 1: Explore Vestmannaeyjar Island

On the first morning, you will be picked up from your accommodation in Reykjavík. The tour will head to the Landeyjarhöfn harbor, where you will board a ferry to Vestmannaeyjar Islands. After a scenic 45-minute ferry ride, the first stop is at Stórhöfði Cape, the southernmost tip of the main island, perfect for observing the iconic Atlantic Puffins. Following this, visit Eldheimar Museum, which commemorates the volcanic eruption of 1973 that forced the island’s residents to evacuate. After the museum, hike up Mt. Eldfell or explore the town before returning to the mainland in the afternoon.

Once back, you will travel along the South Coast and enjoy views of notable sites including Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, and Mt. Eyjafjallajökull, which erupted in 2010, disrupting air traffic across Europe and North America. Your day concludes at the picturesque coastal village of Vík, where you can relax and explore before heading to your hotel for the night.

Day 2: Majestic Landscapes of the East

After breakfast, your adventure begins at the Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon. Hiking alongside the canyon feels like stepping into a fairy tale. The journey then continues into the pristine area of Laki and Lakagígar, part of Vatnajökull National Park. Once at Mt. Laki, hike to the summit for stunning views of the landscape and the historic Lakagígar craters formed during one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history from 1783-1784. This eruption significantly impacted Europe, leading to a famine that contributed to the French Revolution.

You will make short stops along the highlands before arriving in Kirkjubæjarklaustur, where you have free time to explore** Systrafoss Waterfall**, Systrastapi Rock, or the fascinating Kirkjugólf (Church Floor) made of row upon row of basalt columns. Afterward, return to your hotel for the night.

Day 3: Adventure in the Highlands

On your final day, you’ll enjoy breakfast, check out of the hotel, and begin your return journey to Reykjavík. However, you’ll take the scenic Fjallabaksleið Nyrðri road, stopping first at Eldgjá Canyon, the largest volcanic canyon in the world, spanning about 40 kilometers. Here, you’ll hike to experience Ófærufoss Waterfall.

Next, head to Landmannalaugar, a spectacular highlands paradise known for its multicolored rhyolite mountains. You can explore the lava fields of Laugahraun, hike Mt. Brennisteinsalda, or soak in the natural geothermal pool.

After enjoying a couple of hours in Landmannalaugar, your journey back to Reykjavík continues with a brief stop at Hjálparfoss Waterfall in Þjórsárdalur Valley. Once back in Reykjavík in the evening, you will be dropped off at your chosen location.

Preparing for Your Adventure

Please remember to bring warm outdoor clothing, a waterproof jacket and pants, headwear, gloves, and swimsuits for the geothermal springs. Good hiking shoes are also recommended. Please note that meals are not included in the tour, except for breakfast.

Book your 3-Day Highlands, Volcanoes & Westman Islands Adventure today for a thrilling experience in the stunning landscapes of Iceland!

Sólheimajökull Glacier Hike & Ice Climbing Tour

Explore Iceland’s frozen wilderness on a Sólheimajökull Glacier Hike and Ice Climbing Tour. Join a certified glacier guide for an exciting small-group adventure on one of South Iceland’s most impressive glaciers.

The experience combines glacier hiking with optional introductory ice climbing. No previous ice-climbing experience is required. Therefore, this tour is a great choice for active travellers who want to experience Iceland’s ice up close.

The adventure takes approximately 5.5 hours and has a moderate difficulty rating.

Explore Sólheimajökull Glacier

Meet your certified guide at the Sólheimajökull Glacier parking lot. First, your guide will provide the necessary glacier equipment and explain how to use it.

Next, you will receive a thorough safety briefing. Then, begin the hike towards the glacier while enjoying views of Sólheimajökull and the surrounding landscape.

Once you reach the ice, explore a fascinating frozen world. Discover deep crevasses, ice ridges, moulins and beautiful blue ice formations along the way.

Your guide will also explain the glacier’s geology and changing nature. As a result, you will experience the glacier while learning more about the forces that continue to shape it.

Try Ice Climbing

During the tour, your guide will find a suitable ice wall for an introduction to ice climbing.

First, you will learn basic climbing techniques and how to use the specialised equipment. Afterwards, you can put those skills into practice and try climbing the ice yourself.

Ice climbing is optional, so you can still enjoy the glacier adventure if you prefer not to climb. In addition, you do not need previous ice-climbing experience to participate.

A Small-Group Glacier Adventure

The small-group format gives you more time with your glacier guide. It also creates a more personal experience while exploring Sólheimajökull.

However, you should come prepared for an active adventure. The tour can involve up to 8 km of hiking across uneven terrain with moderate elevation changes.

You must wear sturdy hiking boots with ankle support. You also need a shoe size between EU 35 and EU 50 so the specialised glacier crampons fit correctly.

Overall, the Sólheimajökull Glacier Hike and Ice Climbing Tour combines glacier exploration, spectacular scenery and optional ice climbing in one memorable South Iceland adventure.

Overnight Stay on Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon

Experience one of Iceland’s most extraordinary overnight stays with an Overnight Stay on Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Spend the night in a private floating AuroraHut surrounded by the peaceful landscapes of one of Iceland’s hidden glacier lagoons.

Located beneath the mighty Vatnajökull Glacier, Fjallsárlón offers an unforgettable setting far from the crowds. Here, you can disconnect from everyday life and experience the silence, ice and changing light of Icelandic nature.

Each AuroraHut accommodates two guests in a double bed, making this a truly private experience for two.

Sleep in a Floating AuroraHut

Your accommodation for the night is a specially designed AuroraHut, sometimes called an Igloo boat.

Large glass walls and a glass ceiling connect you with the landscape outside. Therefore, you can enjoy views across the glacier lagoon while staying warm and comfortable inside.

The hut includes a double bed, composting toilet, small kitchenette, electricity and Wi-Fi.

However, there are no shower facilities at the location.

Once you reach the floating hut, you remain on the lagoon for the night. You cannot go ashore during your stay.

A Glacier Lagoon Experience for Every Season

The landscape around Fjallsárlón changes dramatically with the seasons.

During summer, enjoy Iceland’s long days and almost continuous daylight. In spring and autumn, watch the changing light create a peaceful atmosphere across the lagoon.

During winter, the darkness offers another remarkable experience. Relax inside the warmth of your hut, gaze at the stars and look for the Northern Lights through the glass.

Northern Lights sightings depend on weather and aurora activity and therefore cannot be guaranteed.

Your Journey to the AuroraHut

The journey to your accommodation is part of the adventure.

During summer and the shoulder seasons, guests travel to the AuroraHut by Zodiac boat. During winter, transportation takes place by 4×4 vehicle.

Fjallsárlón lies approximately 10 minutes by car from Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach, making it an extraordinary addition to a journey through Southeast Iceland.

Guests should have dinner before arriving, as the experience begins with check-in at 17:30. Checkout takes place at approximately 09:00 the following morning.

The complete Overnight Adventure on Fjallsárlón lasts approximately 16 hours and offers a rare opportunity to spend a private night surrounded by Iceland’s glacial wilderness.

Discover an incredible world of natural blue ice on the Vatnajökull Premium Ice Cave Tour. Travel by 4×4 into the Icelandic wilderness and explore a naturally formed ice cave in the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier area.

The experience takes approximately 3–3.5 hours. Fjallsárlón offers one carefully timed departure per day to create a more relaxed ice cave experience.

An experienced guide leads the adventure, while the small group size allows for a more personal journey into this remarkable frozen landscape.

Journey Towards the Ice Cave

Your adventure begins at Fjallsárlón, where you meet your guide before heading into the wilderness.

First, travel for approximately 50 minutes by specially equipped 4×4 vehicle towards the ice cave area.

Next, walk for around 20 minutes over uneven terrain to reach the cave. This tour does not include glacier hiking.

Your guide provides a helmet and microspikes for the experience.

Explore a Natural Blue Ice Cave

Once you reach the cave, step inside an extraordinary world shaped entirely by nature.

Natural ice caves change constantly as the glacier moves and the seasons progress. Therefore, Fjallsárlón’s experienced guides continually search for the best available cave and conditions.

You will spend approximately 40 minutes exploring the ice cave. Along the way, admire the colours, textures and natural formations hidden within the ice.

Because every natural ice cave changes over time, each visit offers a unique experience.

Warm Up at Frost Restaurant

After exploring the cave, walk back to the 4×4 vehicle and begin the journey to Fjallsárlón.

Then, finish your adventure at Frost Restaurant with a warm bowl of tomato soup and a hot drink.

This relaxing finish is included in the experience and offers the perfect way to warm up after your ice cave adventure.

Here, enjoy an approximately 30-minute boat ride through the lagoon. Get a closer look at the floating ice and experience this constantly changing glacial landscape from the water.

The colours, shapes and sizes of the icebergs change continuously. Therefore, every visit to Jökulsárlón offers something different.

Explore Diamond Beach

Next to the lagoon lies the famous Diamond Beach.

Here, pieces of glacial ice wash onto the black volcanic sand after travelling from Jökulsárlón towards the Atlantic Ocean.

The contrast between clear and blue ice and the dark coastline creates one of South Iceland’s most distinctive landscapes.

Waterfalls & South Coast Scenery

The journey also includes a visit to Stjórnarfoss Waterfall, a beautiful stop surrounded by South Iceland’s dramatic scenery.

Later, visit Vík í Mýrdal, Iceland’s southernmost village. Depending on the season and daylight, you can enjoy dinner or take a short walk towards the coast and see the famous Reynisdrangar sea stacks.

Finally, stop at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall. When conditions allow, you can follow the path behind the falling water for an unforgettable view.

The tour may also include a photo stop at Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon when time, visibility and conditions allow.

With glacier lagoons, floating icebergs, waterfalls and volcanic coastline, the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and South Coast Tour from Reykjavik offers an incredible journey through South Iceland in one unforgettable day.
