Experience the Northern Lights from the sea while enjoying Reykjavík’s illuminated skyline on this evening cruise into Faxaflói Bay. This unique winter adventure combines the search for the Aurora Borealis with beautiful views of Iceland’s capital after dark.
As the boat leaves Reykjavík, enjoy panoramic views of the city’s illuminated shoreline, including landmarks such as Harpa Concert Hall and Hallgrímskirkja. Then, as the city lights fade behind you, turn your attention towards the northern sky in search of the aurora.
The cruise lasts approximately two hours, depending on conditions. Your experienced crew monitors weather and solar activity to help maximise your chances of seeing the Northern Lights.
When the Imagine Peace Tower is illuminated, the cruise may also pass the tower, offering a chance to see its powerful beam rising into the night sky.
Every evening is different. The experience brings together Reykjavík’s city lights, the dark skies above Faxaflói Bay and the possibility of witnessing the Northern Lights from the sea.
Step outside onto the open 360° viewing platform for uninterrupted views of the night sky. You can also warm up inside the heated indoor saloon during the cruise.
Warm overalls are available to borrow at no additional cost. An onboard café serves hot drinks and snacks, which can be purchased separately.
The crew provides live guidance throughout the experience and can assist with Northern Lights photography. Photos taken by the crew may also be available when conditions allow.
The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, so sightings can never be guaranteed.
If the Northern Lights are not seen during your cruise, you’ll receive a complimentary ticket to try again. You can rejoin the tour as many times as needed within two years, subject to tour operation and availability, at no additional tour cost.
Refunds are not provided simply because the Northern Lights were not visible.
Pick-up and drop-off are not included in the standard tour price, but transfers can be added to your booking for an additional cost.
If you add the transfer option, pick-up is available from selected hotels or designated bus stops in Reykjavík. Please provide your accommodation details no later than 48 hours before departure.
