Day 1: Reykjavik – South Coast 

On the first day, we explore the South Coast and its amazing landscapes. We visit the stunning Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls and the exceptional Gljufrabui chute hidden in a canyon! As we drive further south, we stop at the unique black beach of Reynisfjara where three basalt rock formations stand proudly in the Atlantic sea. Legend says that they are the remnants of trolls who got struck by sunlight as they tried to reach the shore. From April to the end of October you can also experience what it is like to walk on a glacier under the care of an experienced glacier guide.

Optional activity:

Glacier Hike (3 hours) – minimum age 8 (available from April to October) – Put the crampons on and enjoy the magnificent, raw views around you. Under care of an experienced, skilled and qualified glacier guide you discover mind-blowing places, astonishing crevasses and unique ice formations. It is necessary to wear solid hiking shoes and highly recommend to have warm, windproof jackets on. That is basically all you need to bring – we provide the crampons and all necessary equipment to walk safely on glacier. This activity takes approximately 3 hours.

Day 2: The East Coast adventure

On the second day, we head towards the east coast. First on the itinerary is a visit at Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. During the summer months (May-October), it is possible to go for an Amphibian boat tour on the lagoon and sail through the floating icebergs. However, in the winter (November-March), you swap the boat for a powerful super jeep to go on an ice cave exploration journey. You next visit the amazing Diamond Beach. Here you experience an out-of-world scenery where blocks of ice of different shapes and sizes glitter like diamonds on the black sandy beach. We then continue the adventure by visiting Vestrahorn Mountain, Lagarfljot Lake which is said to be inhabited by the Icelandic version of Loch Ness monster, and Studlagil Canyon to name a few. Today´s journey takes us through the coastline along narrow fjords, endless green valleys, and charming fishing villages.

Optional activities:

Blue Ice Cave visit – minimum age 8 (available from November to March) – Start your day a with super-jeep ride across the glacier to reach the natural Blue Ice Cave. This 3-hour long expedition will leave you with many, unforgettable memories. All the safety gear will be provided. Please make sure to wear warm clothing and solid hiking boots.

Amphibian Boat Tour at Jökulsárlón (available from May to September) – Take a 45-minute-long amphibian boat tour among floating icebergs. You might even encounter seals swimming in the ice cold waters or resting on the shore!

Vök Geothermal Floating Pools –This is a new geothermal spa facility built directly on the beautiful Lake Urridavatn itself. Put on your swimwear, relax and enjoy the unobstructed view over the untouched landscape. The pools are constantly filled with warm waters streaming up from deeps under the lake.

Day 3- Visiting the north coast

We travel today through a unique landscape around Lake Mývatn, shaped by extremely high volcanic activity. We take our time here to see the bubbling mud pots, countless craters, hot springs, and even go inside Grjotagja, a geothermal cave!  During the scenic drive through northern parts of Iceland, we also stop to admire three amazing waterfalls: Dettifoss (the most powerful waterfall in Europe), Selfoss and Godafoss or the waterfall of the Gods. The day ends in Akureyri – the capital of Northern Iceland.

Optional activity:

Mývatn Natural Geothermal spa – take a long and relaxing soak in the silky, blue waters of the Mývatn Natural Geothermal spa! Rich in minerals, the water makes your skin smooth and softer. Take this moment and enjoy the beautiful open view on the lake Mývatn – fourth largest lake in the country – directly from your pool!

Day 4 – Akureyri and its surroundings

We start the itinerary by kicking off from Akureyri heading north to the village called Dalvik, where you can embark on a boat searching for whales in the beautiful Eyjafjordur. This area is known for its unusually high presence of many types of whales, unlike in many other parts of Iceland. Next, in Hvammstangi and its vacinity, you visit the picturesque Hvitserkur rock and Kolugjlufur canyon. We not only visit the Icelandic Seals Center but actually have the opportunity to see some laying on the beach!

Optional activity:

Whale Watching Boat Tour – go on an amazing 3-hours Whale Watching tour for an opportunity to see these huge mammals and possibly dolphins play in the sea. Secure your seat onboard for this activity!

Day 5 – On the way to Borgarfjordur

On the last day, we explore the many wonders of the fjord of Borgarjfordur including Hraunfossar waterfall (over 900 meters of rivulets streaming from the lava field), Grabrok Volcanic Crater and Deildartunguhver. The latter is a hot spring which is Europe´s highest flow of hot water. To push the adventure further, we go for an amazing expedition inside Vidgelmir (the biggest lava cave in Iceland). At the end of this day, we go for a long soak in the warm waters of Krauma Spa before our return to the capital!
