Enjoy a perfect day out at sea on this Whale Watching & Puffin tour from Húsavík! Sail out on the open sea in a traditional oak boat with expert guides. This tour stops at the famous Puffin Island, which is home to thousands of puffins during the summer season. Afterward, you’ll explore the Skjálfandi Bay, home to whale species such as Humpback whales, Blue Whales, Minke Whales and more.
Located by Skjálfandi Bay, the small town of Húsavík is known as the whale watching capital of Iceland. It is also home to one of the biggest colonies in Iceland, Lundey. The name translates to Puffin Island, which sits just outside the Húsavík harbor. In the summer months, it’s home to over 200,000 puffins who nest here. The island is protected, so visitors are not allowed to go on the island itself. But as you slowly sail by the island, you will see hundreds of puffins flying around and diving into the ocean. It truly is a remarkable sight.
On this tour, you will also go on a search for the bay’s other famous inhabitants, whales. Whale watching tours from Húsavík have an excellent sighting rate. Species sighted here include Humpback Whales, Minke Whales and even Blue Whales which are generally sighted early in the season. Other species have also been spotted in this area, making each tour an exciting adventure out at sea.
This Whale Watching and Puffin Tour is an ideal choice for families. During the tour, the whole family can enjoy the smooth, safe sailing of a traditional Icelandic oak boat with a cup of hot cocoa and traditional Icelandic scones.
