From Reykavík you will drive out on the South Coast. Shaped by the winds and waves from the North Atlantic ocean, this area of Iceland offers contrasting landscape. Glaciers, volcanos, green lava fields and black sand beaches, the South Coast has it all.
You’ll start the day by visiting a local farm. Located close to the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, the farm Holt offers a great stop where you can enjoy homemade pastries and coffee (not included). Here you can also learn more about life in Iceland, and meet some friendly farm animals.
Once you’ve said goodbye to the friendly locals at Holt, it’s time to explore the Skógarfoss waterfall. With a 60 foot drop and a width of 49 feet, this waterfall is one of the largest in Iceland. Next, you’ll head to the charming town of Vík before visiting the famous black sand beach of Reynisfjara. Here you can see some impressive columnar basalt, and rock pinnacles rising from the ocean.
After visiting Reynisfjara you’ll start the drive back to Reykjavík, but on the way, there are still some sights to be seen. You’ll stop at the Sólheimajökull glacier tongue and the stunning Seljalandsfoss waterfall before reaching the city. At Seljalandsfoss you can walk behind the waterfall for a stunning photo opportunity!
