Explore a Natural Ice Cave
One of the highlights of the tour is the opportunity to enter a naturally formed ice cave.
These caves are created and reshaped by the movement of the glacier, meltwater and changing temperatures. New caves are explored each season, meaning their size, shape and appearance are never exactly the same.
When conditions are right, light filtering through the ancient ice can reveal remarkable shades of blue and create incredible opportunities for photography.
Because ice caves are natural and constantly changing, access always depends on conditions and safety comes first.
Guided Glacier Hike on Vatnajökull
The adventure also takes you hiking across the glacier with a certified glacier guide.
All necessary safety equipment is provided, including a helmet, glacier crampons, harness and ice axe. Your guide will show you how to use the equipment before leading you onto the glacier.

Meet on Location in Skaftafell
This tour begins at the Arctic Adventures hut in Skaftafell and transportation from Reykjavík is not included.
Skaftafell is approximately four hours east of Reykjavík, and winter road conditions can significantly increase driving times. It is therefore strongly recommended to stay in the area before or after your tour and allow plenty of time to reach the meeting point.
The tour is rated moderate, has a minimum age of 8 years, and sturdy hiking boots with ankle support are required.
