Thingvellir is historically the most important site in Iceland, located about 45 km from Reykjavik. It was here in 930 that the Icelandic parliament, Althing, was established—the world’s oldest still-functioning legislature.
Geologically, the park sits between the North American and Eurasian Plates, creating a dramatic landscape of rift valleys, fissures, basalt rocks, and waterfalls.
As part of your Private Golden Circle Tour, you can even add snorkeling in Silfra, one of the clearest waters in the world (extra activity).
🕑 Expected visiting time: 1 hour
In Haukadalur Valley, you’ll discover steaming hot springs, bubbling mud pots, and the famous Strokkur geyser, erupting every 7–10 minutes with water jets up to 30 meters high.
This geothermal area gave its name to all other geysers in the world. Although the original “Great Geysir” is currently dormant, Strokkur ensures plenty of action.
The Geysir Center is also a perfect spot for lunch, coffee, or souvenirs.
🕑 Expected visiting time: 1 hour
Known as the “Golden Waterfall,” Gullfoss is one of Iceland’s most iconic sights. Fed by the Hvítá river from Langjökull Glacier, its two-tiered cascade plunges into a dramatic canyon.
From Gullfoss, you can add optional adventures such as snowmobiling or a glacier truck ride to your Private Golden Circle Tour. Don’t miss the traditional Icelandic lamb soup (kjötsúpa) at the Gullfoss Restaurant.
🕑 Expected visiting time: 1 hour
