The Katla Ice Cave is one of the few ice caves in Iceland that can be visited year round. On this tour, you will also visit sights such as the village of Vík and the Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. The tour is led by local guides who are intimately familiar with the area. This gives you the opportunity to explore some hidden gems along the way for a perfect day on the South Coast!
After pickup in Reykjavík, you will start by driving to the charming village of Vík. You will drive to Vík in a minibus, during the drive you can enjoy the stunning landscape of the South Coast. After viewing the stunning Reynisdrangar rock pinnacles from Vík, you’ll board a Super Jeep. From here you’ll start your journey towards the Katla Ice Cave. Driving along the private back road of Vík, you can experience a quieter and more authentic side of Iceland. This route takes you off the beaten track and away from the crowds.
After a scenic drive, it’s time to gear up for your ice cave tour! You will get a helmet, crampons and other safety equipment. Your guide will give you a safety briefing before you start the short walk across the glacier. Once you reach the Katla Ice Cave you’ll be able to enjoy the stunning ice cave and take plenty of pictures. On the drive back to Vík you’ll ride through some exciting terrain and experience capabilities of the Super Jeep.
Once back in Vík you will hop back on board the minibus and head to the Skógafoss waterfall. With a width of 15 meters (49 feet) and a drop of 60 m (200 ft), this waterfall is truly a stunning sight. Next, you’ll visit the Seljalandsfoss waterfall which you can even walk behind during the summer months. Be sure to bring a waterproof jacket for this one! After a full day of exploration, you will be dropped off at your selected location in Reykjavík.

Safety always comes first, therefore the operator of this tour reserves the right to cancel the tour if conditions are not right. In case of cancellations, you will be offered to go on another tour, if possible, or get a full refund.
You will spend about 30 – 45 minutes in the Katla Ice Cave.
You should bring your warmest clothes and winter layers, gloves, hat and of course your camera.
Good hiking shoes or snow boots are essential for this tour.
All safety equipment needed for the ice cave tour will be provided to you on the tour.

Reservations can be canceled 48 hours prior to departure without penalty. Cancellations received less than 48 hours prior to departure are non-refundable.
