This unique tour takes you on an extended hike by Sólheimajökull glacier, the so-called panorama trail. As the name suggests, this tour offers a more challenging tour in this beautiful area where you can enjoy incredible panoramic views.
This tour departs from the Sólheimajökull glacier parking lot. You will meet up with your guide and travel mates for the day. You will board a special glacier vehicle which will transport you to the start of the trail by the roots of Mýrdalsjökull glacier. If the weather is good, you might see the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano in the distance. The trail you will be hiking lies above and along the Sólheimajökull outlet glacier. You will hike this trail from its starting point to its end at the glacier’s terminus. The trail is mostly downhill. Please note that this is not a glacier hike, but you will be hiking a path by the glacier.
As you hike along the trail, you can enjoy spectacular glacier views. You will also see black beaches and the Atlantic coastline. As you take in the panoramic views, you can see how glaciers and volcanic activity has shaped our island for thousands of years. If you are lucky, some of the local sheep might come to say hello! After an invigorating hike along the panorama trail, you will return to the Sólheimajökull glacier parking lot.
