The Snowmobile Into the Glacier from Reykjavík tour takes you on a thrilling adventure on the Langjökull glacier. During the tour, you will ride snowmobiles up to a man-made ice cave, a stunning sight for any traveler. While exploring the cave you’ll be able to see, touch and even taste the glacier! After pickup in Reykjavík, you will drive up to beautiful Húsafell. As you drive you can listen to an audio guide to learn more about the stunning landscape you will see. After reaching the snowmobile base camp, you will suit up in warm overalls and safety equipment. You will get a safety briefing and your guide will show you how to operate the snowmobiles.

Next, it’s time to jet off to the Langjökull ice cap! You’ll ride snowmobiles up to the entrance of the ice cave. Once there your guide will take you on a journey inside the glacier! During the tour, you’ll learn more about the glacier and its environment. You’ll also be able to taste and touch the glacier, and even test its acoustics! After exploring the ice cave, you’ll ride back to Húsafell from where you can enjoy lunch. After visiting Hraunfossar waterfalls you’ll drive back to Reykjavík.

This tour includes an audio guide in 10 languages. We recommend bringing your own headphones for the audio guide, but you can also buy them on the bus. Each seat on the bus is equipped with a tablet which you can also use to learn interesting information about Iceland. There is free WiFi on the bus, and you can charge your phone.

Do I need to have a drivers license to drive a snowmobile?

Yes, you must have a valid driving license and be at least 18 years of age to operate the snowmobile.

If you do not have a valid license, you can ride in the back of the snowmobile of your licensed travel partner. Kids also ride on the back of their parents snowmobiles, who must hold a valid license.

Is pickup and dropoff in Reykjavík included in the tour price?

No, pickup and drop-off are not included but you can add pickup for 1,400 ISK per person for adults and teenagers. There’s no pickup fee for children 11 years and younger when accompanied by adults.

You can select the most convenient location for your transfer at booking.

If you do not want to add pickup to your tour, the meeting point is at the  Reykjavik Terminal, Skógahlíð 10, 105 Reykjavík. Please be at the terminal at least 15 minutes before the start of your tour.

Make sure to note down your pickup times and departure times. Pick up can take up to 30 minutes starting from the time on your ticket. Please wait at your hotel/guest house in this time span.

Guest are collected with several minibusses, so please be aware that you may need to change buses at a meeting point before the tour begins.

What should I wear on this tour?

You should wear warm, windproof clothing in addition to good, sturdy shoes. Keep in mind that the weather in Iceland can change quickly, so it’s essential to wear proper clothing.

Can I bring my own headphones for the audio guide?

Yes, we encourage you to bring your own headphones for the audio guide.

If you do not have headphones, you can either buy them at booking or on the bus during the tour.

Is lunch included in the tour price?

No, lunch is not included. You can either bring a packed lunch or you can purchase lunch during the tour.

What is the cancellation policy for this tour?

Reservations can be canceled 24 hours prior to departure without penalty. Cancellations received less than 24 hours prior to departure are non-refundable.

Cancellations must be submitted in writing to info@iat.is.
