The Private Tour of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula

A private tour of the Snæfellsnes peninsula gives you the opportunity to explore this stunning area at your own pace with an experienced guide. Often called “Iceland in miniature”, the Snæfellsnes peninsula is home to some of Iceland’s most iconic sights. During the tour, you will visit the stunning village of Arnarstapi, Kirkjufell mountain, the Lóndrangar rock pinnacles and much more. If you are looking for a tour of Snæfellsnes with a personal touch, this is the tour for you!

After pickup in Reykjavík, you’ll embark on your Super Jeep vehicle and drive up to the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Jules Verna made this peninsula famous in his novel, “Journey to the Center of the Earth”. It is often said that the peninsula holds mystical powers, as you journey into this dramatic landscape you’ll soon see why! During the tour, you will visit all the major sights on the peninsula. These include the stunning villages of Arnarstapi and Hellnar.

As you continue on, you’ll visit the Lóndrangar rock pinnacles. Close by is the Djúpalónssandur pebble beach. Here you will find the “Lifting stones” that were used in centuries past to test the strength of sailors. From Djúpalónssandur you’ll continue up to the north side of the peninsula. The most famous attraction here is Mt. Kirkjufell, which looms above the small town of Grundarfjörður. By Kirkjufell is also the Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall.

Other sights in this area include the stunning Berserkjahraun, or Berserk Lava Field. An eruption here about 3600-4000 years ago created a stunning lava field where you can now see the contrast between lava and bright green moss. On the way, you will also visit Gerðuberg which is a belt of basalt columns that is listed as a natural heritage. The columns are 14 meters at their highest and around 1-1,5 meters wide.

Please note that this tour can accommodate up to 5 guests per vehicle, but we recommend no more than 4 persons per vehicle for comfort. If you have a larger group, please email us at and we’ll send you a price quote.
