The Reykjadalur Hot Springs and Lava Cave tour gives you the opportunity to explore the Hengill geothermal area with an experienced guide. On this tour, you will explore the diverse landscape of this area near Reykjavík. After the tour, you will truly know why we say that Reykjavík is next to nature!
Departing from Reykjavík, you will drive to the Bláfjöll mountain rage. Here you will gear up with safety equipment and go inside a lava cave. During your visit, you will learn about how lava caves are formed and you can see geological formations such as stalagmites and stalactites. After exploring the cave, you’ll head to the Hengill geothermal area. Here you will go on an easy hike to Reykjadalur through amazing landscapes. Along the way, you will see bubbling mud pots, hot springs, and steam rising from the earth. If you are lucky, some friendly sheep might also come to say hello! During the hike, you will surely feel like you have entered another world!
For the perfect ending to this tour, you will arrive at the Reykjadalur hot springs. Be sure to bring your swimsuits as you will be able to bathe in this naturally warm stream. After a relaxing soak, you will return to your selected location in Reykjavík.
Yes, at booking please select your preferred pickup point from the drop-down menu. The pickup and dropoff in Reykjavík are included in the price.
You should dress according to weather and keep in mind that the weather in Iceland can change quickly and without warning. We recommend wearing layers so that you can take off clothing and put them back on as needed. Even if it’s a sunny day you should bring a wind & waterproof jacket in your backpack.
For this tour, it’s important to wear good, comfortable hiking boots. We recommend boots that go above your ankle. Hiking boots and rain gear can be rented at booking, at additional cost.
Remember to bring a bathing suit and a towel to bathe in the hot springs.
No, lunch is not included in this tour but you are welcome to bring a packed lunch and snacks. You should also bring a refillable water bottle.
No, for safety reasons the age limit on this tour is not flexible. The age limit is 8 years old.
You don’t need any particular skills or prior hiking experience in order to do the hike, but you need to be in decent shape. The hike is easy and guests who have a reasonable level of fitness should be able to complete this tour without incident.
Reservations can be canceled 24 hours prior to departure without penalty. Cancellations received less than 24 hours prior to departure are non-refundable.
