To be able to participate in this tour, all guests must meet the following requirements:
Participants must have read, signed and followed directions on the Diving Silfra Medical Statement. Please bring a signed copy to your snorkeling tour.
The height and weight limits for this tour are as follows:
Height Limit: 150- 200cm (4‘9 – 6‘5 inch)
Weight Limit: 45- 120kg (99 – 265 pounds)
These limits are due to the standard sizes of dry suites used on the snorkeling tour. All guest must wear a dry suit when snorkeling in Silfra. Unfortunately, we can not accommodate guests who fall outside of these limits.
Yes, all our guides are either certified divemasters or dive instructors. They are highly qualified professionals and under their guidance, you will feel safe and secure. They will provide you with all the gear and information you need.
Before entering Silfra, your guide will show you how to use the equipment to ensure a pleasant snorkeling trip.
For the snorkeling tour you should wear thermal underlayers long underwear) and warm socks underneath the dry suit.
If you wear glasses, you should bring contact lenses.
For the rest of the tour, you should wear warm and waterproof clothing. Keep in mind that the weather in Iceland is unpredictable and can change quickly
On this tour, you can choose both a drysuit and a wetsuit option.
The general idea is that the dry suit should keep your body dry. The drysuits are all top-quality designs from respected manufactures but please note that there is always a small risk water can get into the dry suit. This is not in any way dangerous, but you could feel the cold a little bit.
Please note that your hands and face will get wet.
If you choose the wetsuit version, you will get wet in the water. The wetsuits do a pretty good job of keeping your body warm, but snorkeling in wetsuit will always be colder than a drysuit.
The snorkeling itself takes about 30-40 minutes. When we get to the exit point which is in the Lagoon, you get the opportunity to swim around a bit longer if you’d like to.
If you choose a private Silfra tour option you will have a personal snorkeling guide, one for up to 6 persons, two for up to 12 persons and so on.
However, as Silfra is a public place we can not guarantee that you will be alone in Silfra for the duration of your tour. Groups at Silfra go into the water in groups of 6 with regular intervals, so there are usually groups getting out and getting into the water throughout the day.
You do have to be able to swim to participate in the snorkeling.
Yes, our guides take photos of every snorkeling tour. They then upload them to a Google web album where you can pick the photos you like and then download them FREE of charge.
