The Ice Climbing and Glacier Hiking tour on Sólheimajökull is the ultimate small group glacier experience! This tour is offered with both pickup in Reykjavík and a meet on location option. If you choose the pickup option, your guide will pick you up in Reykjavík. From there you’ll drive you about 2 hours to the Sólheimajökull glacier. Once there you will set out on the Sólheimajökull glacier for your ice climbing adventure. Before heading to the glacier, you’ll suit up in climbing boots and rain gear if needed.
In a group of only 4 guests per guide, you’ll start the easy hike out to the Sólheimajökull glacier. After about a 15 minute hike, you’ll reach the glacier’s edge. Here your guide will teach you how to put on your crampons and you’ll begin your glacier hike. As the day is focused on ice climbing, you’ll hike to a suitable climbing location with exciting stops on the way. You will explore different locations during the day so you can try out different levels of difficulty. During the ice climbing sessions, you’ll learn the basic ice climbing techniques and receive feedback to help improve your skills.
After a full day out glacier hiking and ice climbing, you’ll either return to Reykjavík with your guide or continue your Iceland adventure on your own. If you choose the pickup option, your guide will make a scenic stop at the stunning Skógarfoss glacier on the way. Once in Reykjavík, you will be dropped off at your selected location.
No, pickup and dropoff in Reykjavík are not included in the tour price but you can add transfer services to your tour at booking.
The additional cost for transfers is 5,000 ISK per person.
No, lunch is not included on this tour. During the transfer from Reykjavík your guide will stop on the way where you can buy lunch. You can of course also bring a packed lunch.
You should wear warm clothing as your first layer and waterproof clothing as your second layer.
Included in the tour price are mountaineering boots and rain gear.
The age limit on this tour is not flexible but this tour can be booked as a private tour if you have younger children.

Reservations can be canceled 48 hours prior to departure without penalty. Cancellations received less than 48 hours prior to departure are non-refundable.
