November – March
2 ½ hours
The Ice Cave and Glacier Walk combo tour lets you enjoy two of the most popular winter activities in the Skaftafell area. During the tour, you will both go on a glacier hike and explore an ice cave. Ice caves are only accessible in winter, and visiting one is a once in a lifetime experience. Led by expert guides, you’ll be able to safely explore these naturally formed works of art. If you are visiting Skaftafell in winter, then this is the tour for you!
After meeting up with your guide and your group in Skaftafell, you’ll head up on the glacier. After a safety briefing, where you’ll learn how to use the supplied equipment such as crampons and an ice ax, your adventure begins!
During the tour, you will learn more about the glacier and how it’s ice caves are formed. Inside the ice cave, your surroundings are truly breathtaking. The melting ice, vivid blue color, and tranquility inside of the cave are what make these features of the glacier so spectacular. As you explore this natural phenomenon, you’ll have plenty of time to take pictures.
After exploring the ice cave, you’ll go on a glacier walk with your expert guide. Here you will explore the stunning features of the glacier. These include deep crevasses and beautiful ice features. You’ll also learn more about the behavior of the glacier and its impact on nature.
Please note that ice caves are a natural phenomena and the conditions can change depending on the weather. Your safety is the first priority so sometimes the tours may be canceled with short notice due to weather conditions or safety concerns. If this happens, we will always do our best to offer you an alternative tour, if weather permits.
