The Helicopter Inside the Volcano Tour

This tour is an excellent option for those who want to go on the Inside the Volcano tour but skip the hike. Combining a scenic helicopter transfer and the Inside the Volcano tour, you can enjoy two of Reykjavík’s best excursions in one tour! Departing from Reykjavík, you will fly above the city to the dormant Þríhnjúgagíkur crater. During the flight, you can enjoy views over Iceland’s colorful capital.

Next, you will land by the Þríhnjúkagígur crater, which is located on the outskirts of Reykjavík. The regular tour includes a 2,5 km hike, but by traveling with a helicopter, you will land right by the crater. You must walk up to the crater’s entrance, which requires a reasonable fitness level. The walk up is only a short distance, but it is steep. At the door, you will be lowered into the Þríhnjúkagígur crater via an open-elevator system. As you descend into the crater, you can take in the crater’s stunning natural features. Once you reach the ground, you can walk around and take photos. Once the helicopter is back on the surface, you will fly back to Reykjavík.

Please note that coffee and refreshments are offered to guests who hike up to Þríhnjúkagígur. On the helicopter tour, there may not be time for refreshments.
