Departing from Reykjavík, you will start by driving along the South Coast. This area of Iceland is incredibly scenic. Here you will see lush farmlands, black sands, and dramatic mountains. Once you arrive at the Sólheimajökull glacier, it’s time for your glacier kayak tour. You will suit up in drysuits and your guide will show you some basic kayaking techniques. You will kayak on sit-on-top kayaks that are easy to steer, so you do not need any previous kayaking experience. Your guide will also give you a safety briefing before pushing off from shore.
Once out on the lagoon, you will experience the amazing features of the lagoon and Sólheimajökull glacier. As you paddle on the calm surface of the lagoon, you will be able to take in the incredible landscape that surrounds you. Your guide will lead you around the glacier and in between the icebergs that float on the lagoon. You will also learn more about the glacier and its environment.
After your kayaking experience, you can enjoy some warm drinks before continuing the journey along the South Coast. By Sólheimasandur, you will board a special bus that will take you to the DC-3 plane wreck. This United States Navy aircraft crash landed in 1973 and has since become one of the South Coasts most iconic sites. After visiting the wreck, you’ll continue on to Skógafoss waterfall. You will also visit the Seljalandsfoss waterfall where nearby you’ll find Gljúfrabúi waterfall. After a full day of fun, you’ll return to your selected location in Reykjavík.
